The photographic record presented in this publication is conceived to share the experience of walking at an explorer's pace through the fabulous world of the Gran Sabana, Guayana and its magical flat mountains: the tepuis.
Henry Gonzalez's arduous artistic work introduces us to the landscape and takes us to experience the sensation of entering it. His images show monumental and extensive landscapes illuminated and framed with such mastery that we seem to breathe savannah, jungle and tepuis at the same time. In contrast, his lens captures minute details of the animal and plant world, recorded with equal care and expressive capacity. This meticulous approach to the region has also captured the spirit of the people who pass through it: some -pemones-, who, adapted to the new times and reinterpreting their ancestral wisdom, approach and rediscover the wonderful geography of the tepuis; others -explorers, climbers and mountaineers-, who, amazed by the imposing walls, challenge their own strength to reach the summit.
The reader will find in this book a time for adventure, a journey through the Auyantepuy, Autana, Ptaritepuy, Kukenán, Roraima and other amazing places; to leaf through this work is to enter into the perspective of its people, is to look from the eye of the hikers and surrender to experience the extraordinary.
