The Tintamare is a 41-foot “Beaujolais” sailboat, crafted with an aluminum hull and a canting keel. This exceptional vessel was designed by the renowned French naval architect, Philippe Harlé, celebrated for his innovative and practical designs.

Built in 1980 at the Chavantre shipyard in Les Sables d'Olonne, France, the Tintamare is one of only 12 units ever produced of the “Beaujolais” model. This boat was originally conceived by Harlé as a family-friendly vessel, capable of supporting a year-long voyage with his own family.

With its rich heritage and robust design, the Tintamare is perfectly suited for exploring the stunning waters of the San Blas Archipelago.

We chose the Explorer Tintamare because we wanted more than just a boat—we were searching for a vessel that was strong, safe, and comfortable, yet carried the same adventurous spirit that defines us.

With its unique design and rich history, Tintamare has become the perfect companion for our life of exploration, offering both reliability and the freedom to roam the open seas.

We are a couple of passionate explorers, sailing through life and the world together for the past 20 years. Since 2020, the breathtaking San Blas Archipelago in Panama has been our home base, and the Explorer Tintamare —our beloved sailboat— has been our sanctuary on the sea.

HERNANDO ARNAL

Hello! My name is Hernando Arnal, and I am the captain of the Tintamare. Since childhood, I have been drawn to the sea, sailing the Caribbean and dreaming of one day exploring the world aboard my own boat.

My love for adventure doesn’t stop at the ocean. I’ve been immersed in mountaineering since I was young and later pursued the thrilling challenges of climbing and hang gliding. I’ve been fortunate to climb high mountains and conquer iconic big walls like El Capitan in Yosemite. My passion for flight led me to compete in prestigious events like the US National Championships and world competitions, and I’ve also worked as a flight instructor and test pilot.

Nature has always inspired me, guiding my work in documentary filmmaking and my career as a captain of both classic and modern yachts. My love for the sea has been constant, driving me to cross the Atlantic Ocean more than 20 times, including solo crossings—an experience that continues to fuel my spirit of exploration.

A few years ago, I discovered the enchanting San Blas Islands and instantly fell in love with their beauty and serenity. Now, I invite you to join me in exploring this breathtaking paradise aboard the Tintamare.

Originally from Venezuela and later adopting Spanish nationality, I speak fluent Spanish and proficient English. I am confident that your time aboard the Tintamare will be an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait to share this adventure with you.

THE CAPTAIN

MONTSE NOGUEROL

Hello! My name is Montse Noguerol, and I was born in Barcelona, Spain. I am the sailor and cook aboard the Tintamare, and for over 20 years, I’ve been Hernando’s partner in life and adventures.

As a proud Spaniard, I have a deep love for food and enjoy blending Mediterranean flavors with the vibrant influences of Caribbean cuisine.

I am also a certified yoga teacher, having trained in India, where I lived and studied for a time. My expertise extends to being a manual therapist, and for more than two decades, I have worked with children, adults, and seniors, sharing workshops and training in yoga and mindfulness.

Life has taken me to many places, including Spain, England, India, Bolivia, Venezuela, and now Panama, where I call the Tintamare home.

My greatest passions are sharing the transformative power of yoga, spending time immersed in nature, and connecting with new people. I look forward to welcoming you aboard Tintamare and sharing this incredible journey together!
